Why This Matters
A domain that expires takes your website and email down with it, and recovering it becomes more expensive at every stage. Understanding the timeline helps you avoid panic and extra fees.
The Typical Timeline
- Before expiry. We send renewal reminders to your registered email well in advance. You can renew any time from the client area at app.techguru.co.in under Domains, or enable auto renewal so the system renews it against your saved payment method.
- Expiry day. If the domain is not renewed, it stops resolving. Website and email linked to it stop working, usually within a day or two.
- Renewal grace period. For most extensions there is a grace window of roughly 30 days after expiry where you can still renew at the normal price. Exact duration varies by extension, and some country code domains have shorter windows.
- Redemption period. After grace ends, the domain enters redemption for around 30 more days. Recovery is still possible but the registry charges a heavy restoration fee on top of the renewal price, often several thousand rupees.
- Pending delete. After redemption the domain is queued for deletion and released to the open market. Anyone can then register it, and domain investors often grab expired names within seconds.
How to Never Reach Redemption
- Turn on auto renewal for every business critical domain.
- Keep your contact email current so reminders actually reach you. Do not use an email address hosted on the same domain as your only contact.
- Renew for multiple years at once for your primary domain.
- Check the Domains page in the client area quarterly and confirm expiry dates.
Already Expired?
Log in and try renewing from the client area first. If the option is unavailable, open a support ticket immediately with the domain name. Speed matters because fees rise once redemption starts.
