On Urgent Hiring, your job description is your advertisement. Over 100,000 recruiters compete for candidate attention on job portals, and vague listings get skipped in seconds. A precise, honest description attracts fewer but far better applications. Here is how to write one.
Get the Title Right
Candidates search by title, so use the words they use. Write Accountant — Tally and GST, not Finance Ninja. Include the city, since location is the first filter most candidates apply. Avoid internal grade codes that mean nothing outside your company.
The Structure That Works
- One-line summary — role, location and what makes it worth reading further
- Responsibilities — five to eight bullet points describing an actual working day, not a copied template
- Requirements — separate must-have skills from nice-to-have; every unnecessary must-have silently removes good candidates
- Salary range — listings with a clear range in INR receive significantly more applications than those saying salary no bar or negotiable
- Company and process — two or three lines on who you are, plus interview steps and joining timeline
Honesty Filters Better Than Adjectives
State the shift timings, field work, targets or six-day weeks upfront. Candidates who accept these conditions knowingly stay longer; candidates who discover them after joining leave within weeks, and you pay for the re-hire.
Before You Publish
- Read the listing as a candidate: would you apply?
- Check spelling of the designation and city
- Confirm the contact route and application deadline
- Consider a Featured or Urgent tag for time-critical roles to improve visibility
Remember: Urgent Hiring never charges candidates any fee, and your listing must never ask candidates for money at any stage.
