One Mailbox, Every Screen
GO Mailbox is built around IMAP, which means the server is the single source of truth. Your phone, office desktop, home laptop and webmail are all windows into the same mailbox. Read a message on one device and it shows as read everywhere; delete it and it disappears everywhere. For this to work smoothly, every device must be configured the same correct way.
The Golden Settings
- Account type: IMAP, never POP. A single device configured as POP can quietly download and remove mail from the server, breaking sync for everyone else.
- Incoming: IMAP on port
993with SSL. - Outgoing: SMTP on port
465or587with SSL or STARTTLS and authentication enabled. - Username: the full email address on every device.
Folder Mapping Matters
Sent, Drafts and Trash should map to the same server folders on every device. If your phone saves sent mail to a local folder, messages you send from mobile will be invisible on the desktop. In each client, open account settings and confirm that Sent, Drafts, Trash and Spam are set to the server folders of the same names. Most modern clients detect this automatically; older Outlook versions may need manual selection.
Symptoms of a Sync Problem and Their Fixes
- Mail visible on phone but missing on desktop: the desktop is likely on POP or filtering messages away. Recreate the account as IMAP.
- Sent items missing from other devices: fix the sent folder mapping described above.
- Old messages absent on a new device: many phones sync only recent mail by default; increase the sync period to All in account settings.
- Repeated password prompts on one device: update the saved password after any reset, and check for security software intercepting SSL.
