Camera Form Factors and Where They Belong
Walk into any CCTV showroom and you will see a wall of near identical looking products at wildly different prices. The form factor of a camera matters as much as its specification sheet, because each shape suits a different job. Here is how we advise clients across Delhi NCR.
Dome Cameras
Domes are the default choice for indoor spaces such as offices, showrooms and reception areas. The tinted cover hides the lens direction, which discourages tampering, and vandal resistant IK10 models survive knocks in warehouses and parking basements. Ceiling mounting keeps them discreet and out of reach.
Bullet Cameras
Bullets are visible by design. Mounted on a boundary wall or above a gate, they act as a deterrent before they act as a recorder. Their longer bodies accommodate bigger lenses and stronger infrared arrays, so they suit perimeters, driveways and loading bays where you need reach of 30 to 80 metres at night.
PTZ Cameras
Pan-tilt-zoom cameras cover large open areas such as factory yards, parking lots and campuses. An operator, or an automated tour, can sweep wide zones and zoom into detail. One caution we always share: a PTZ looking left cannot record what happens on the right, so pair PTZs with fixed cameras for evidential coverage.
Specialist Options
- Turret cameras avoid the infrared reflection problems domes sometimes face.
- Fisheye cameras give 360 degree coverage of open plan floors with one device.
- ANPR cameras read vehicle number plates at gates.
- Thermal cameras detect intrusion across long perimeters in total darkness.
Resolution and Lenses
For most business use we recommend 2 MP to 5 MP cameras with the lens chosen for the scene: wide for rooms, narrow for corridors and gates. More megapixels also mean more storage, so the balance matters.
