Building a CV That Gets Shortlisted Print

  • 0

Recruiters on Urgent Hiring often receive hundreds of applications within hours of posting, especially with 800+ new jobs added daily. Most CVs get less than 30 seconds of attention. This guide shows you how to build a CV that survives that first glance and earns an interview call.

Structure that recruiters expect

  1. Header: name, phone, email and city. Add your LinkedIn profile if it is updated. Skip photos, date of birth and full address unless the employer asks.
  2. Summary: two or three lines stating your role, years of experience and strongest skill. Example: Accounts executive with 4 years of experience in GST filing, TDS and Tally, seeking a senior role in Noida.
  3. Work experience: newest first, with company, role and dates. Under each, write achievements, not duties.
  4. Skills: a short list matching the job description keywords, because many recruiters filter by them.
  5. Education and certifications: keep brief unless you are a fresher.

Write achievements, not responsibilities

Compare responsible for sales with grew territory sales from Rs 40 lakh to Rs 65 lakh in one year. Numbers make claims believable. Wherever possible add figures: team size, targets met, cost saved, tickets resolved per day.

Mistakes that get CVs rejected

  • One generic CV for every job. Adjust your summary and skills for each role category, such as Developer, Sales or Accounting.
  • Spelling errors, especially in the first three lines.
  • Fancy designs and tables that confuse screening software. A clean single-column format works best.
  • Length beyond two pages for under ten years of experience.
  • Unexplained gaps; one honest line is better than silence.
