Renewal vs reissue — the difference
- Renewal extends the life of your certificate with a fresh validity period. It is done before or around the expiry date.
- Reissue generates a new copy of a current certificate, used when you change servers, lose the private key, or add a SAN name. Reissue does not extend expiry and is usually free during the validity period.
The renewal timeline we recommend
- 30 days before expiry — renewal reminders begin from the client portal at app.techguru.co.in. Place the renewal order now.
- Validation — DV certificates revalidate in minutes via DNS or file check; OV and EV need business verification again, which can take days, so start early.
- Install the new certificate — the renewed certificate is a new file and must be installed on the server. On hosting managed by Tech Guru Club we install it for you.
- Verify — check the padlock and the new expiry date in the browser, and confirm no page loads mixed content.
Common renewal mistakes
- Paying for renewal but forgetting to install the new file — the site still expires.
- Letting the domain itself expire, which blocks validation entirely.
- Renewing an EV certificate a week before expiry, leaving no time for verification.
