Domain Renewal Best Practices — Never Lose a Domain Print

  • 0

Why Domains Get Lost

Almost every lost domain follows the same story: the renewal notice went to an old email address, the payment card had expired, or the one person who handled renewals left the company. The website and business email then stop working, and if the grace period passes, the name may be auctioned or registered by someone else. Recovering it can cost many times the normal renewal fee, or prove impossible.

Understand the Renewal Timeline

  1. Before expiry: renew any time; the new period is added to your existing expiry date, so renewing early never wastes days.
  2. Grace period: after expiry, most TLDs allow renewal at the normal price for a limited number of days, but your website and email may already be suspended.
  3. Redemption period: the registry holds the name for roughly thirty days more, and restoring it attracts a heavy redemption fee.
  4. Release: the name drops and anyone can register it, including drop-catching services.

Best Practices

  • Enable auto renewal on every domain you care about, and keep a valid payment method on file in the portal at app.techguru.co.in.
  • Renew for multiple years. Registering or renewing for three to five years reduces admin work and protects against price increases.
  • Use a role email such as domains@yourcompany.in as the account contact, so notices survive staff changes.
  • Add calendar reminders sixty and thirty days before expiry as a backup to registrar emails.
  • Audit yearly: confirm contact details, payment methods and the list of active domains.

Beware of Fake Renewal Notices

Scammers send official-looking letters and emails demanding renewal payments. Genuine notices for your Tech Guru Club domains always direct you to app.techguru.co.in. When in doubt, log in directly and check the expiry date, or ask our 24/7 support team.
