Why Domains Get Stolen
A domain is a valuable digital asset, and criminals target them just as they target bank accounts. The most common attack is an unauthorised transfer: the thief gains access to your registrar account or email, requests a transfer to another registrar, and approves it before you notice. Recovering a stolen domain can take months of disputes, and your website and email stay down the entire time.
What the Registrar Lock Does
Every domain at Tech Guru Club supports a registrar lock, also called theft protection. When enabled, the registry refuses any transfer request for the domain until the lock is removed from inside your account. This single setting blocks the vast majority of hijack attempts, because the attacker must first compromise your portal login rather than just intercepting a transfer email.
How to Enable Theft Protection
- Log in to the client portal at app.techguru.co.in.
- Open Domains, then select the domain you want to secure.
- Find the registrar lock or theft protection toggle and switch it on.
- Repeat for every domain, or use bulk actions to lock all domains at once.
Build a Full Defence
- Strong portal password: long, unique and stored in a password manager.
- Two-factor authentication: enable 2FA on your Tech Guru Club account so a leaked password alone is useless.
- Secure registrant email: the email on the domain is a master key. Protect that mailbox with 2FA too.
- Guard the EPP code: never share your transfer authorisation code unless you are genuinely moving the domain.
- Watch notifications: read every transfer or change email immediately; you normally have a window to deny an unauthorised request.
