The UDM9R fixed gate reader is your electronic security guard: it reads every tag passing through a doorway and raises an alarm when stock leaves without an authorised outward document. Placement and power settings decide whether it works brilliantly or cries wolf.
Placement guidelines
- Mount antennas so the read field covers the full width and height of the passage, typically on both sides of the gate or overhead for wide industrial doors.
- Keep the unit away from large moving metal such as rolling shutters where possible, since metal reflects UHF signals and creates blind spots or false reads.
- Route power and LAN cable through conduit, and keep the reader on a UPS so gate security survives power cuts.
- Position the alarm beacon where floor staff can clearly see and hear it.
Why power tuning matters
Transmit power controls the size of the read zone. Too high, and the gate reads tags sitting on a rack five metres away, flooding the system with false alarms. Too low, and a carton carried through quickly may slip past unread. Tuning finds the sweet spot.
The tuning procedure we follow
- Start at a moderate power level on each antenna.
- Walk test: carry a tagged carton through the gate at normal speed, ten times, at different heights and angles. Target is ten out of ten reads.
- Stray test: place tagged stock at its nearest real storage position beside the gate and confirm the reader does not see it.
- Adjust power up or down in small steps, repeating both tests, until reads are reliable and strays are silent.
- Record the final settings in your site documentation for future reference.
Re-tune whenever you rearrange racking near a gate or widen a passage. If alarm behaviour changes suddenly, raise a ticket with Tech Guru IT Solutions and an engineer will re-verify the calibration.
